What is the type of scanner needed for ViciDocs? What is the typical cost and speed of scanning?
The scanner needs to be TWAIN compatible. TWAIN is the de facto standard interface between
software applications and image-capturing devices such as scanners. Nearly all
scanners contain a TWAIN driver, but only TWAIN-compatible software can use the
technology.
Low-end scanners currently start from $100 onwards and a high
performance one costs about $800-1000. A high performance scanner can easily
scan more than 150 pages (with black and white text) per minute.

What is OCR? How accurate is it?
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a software module,
which converts image documents to text documents. The accuracy of OCR software
depends on the quality of paper and printing. For laser-printed documents OCRs
typically have more than 99% accuracy whereas for documents like faxes the
accuracy falls to 80-85%.

What is an indexing engine?
An indexing engine is a software module that stores the position of words in a
document so that searching for the document is facilitated. ViciDocs has a
proprietary indexing engine, which is very powerful - it stores the position of
each word in the document and also allows for fuzzy search
capabilities.

How are documents stored after scanning? How much disk space does one page occupy typically?
The documents are stored in the TIFF format. A black and white text page with 50 lines after
scanning typically occupies around 50KB.
